Jonathan McFarlane is the Co-Founder and CEO of PlaceOS, a platform that connects all systems across a campus—AV, IT, access control, HVAC, lighting, and more—to enable automation, real-time data, and seamless user experiences. Originally developed to break down silos in commercial buildings, PlaceOS now powers smart campuses and workplaces alike, with deployments across leading universities, Fortune 500 companies, and global consultancies.
With over a decade of experience delivering large-scale technology projects, Jonathan combines deep technical knowledge with a background in user experience design. His work spans AV automation, room control, occupancy-based energy savings, and AI-driven workflows—helping institutions build more adaptive, data-driven environments.
He holds a Master of Design Science from the University of Sydney and regularly contributes thought leadership on platform strategy and hybrid space design. Outside of PlaceOS, Jonathan mentors university entrepreneurs, has guest lectured at UTS and Sydney Uni, and has served as a mentor and judge for the University of Sydney’s startup program, Genesis.
