I became a teacher because I feel that all students deserve to be seen. Not only the confident, but also the not-so-confident. Not only the quickest learners. Each and every pupil – the quiet one at the back, the pupil with additional needs, the pupil who joins from a screen three hundred kilometres away.
It drives my work as an Assistant Professor of Computer Engineering at M. H. Saboo Siddik College of Engineering in Mumbai, my work with MIT's Abdul Latif Jameel World Education Lab (J-WEL), an Innovation Ambassador for Ministry of Education and my work as a Google Certified Educator, with 17 years of classrooms in very different settings.
My work on Explainable AI, data governance and responsible technology is not done as a standalone but as a part of my teaching. I am researching the use of AI to make learning personal and family-friendly, and to overcome obstacles that hinder learning for students who were never intended to be in the classroom.
20+ published papers, internationally presented and pilots which led to a 40% increase in students' concept clarity.
But there is a number I don't care about as much: How many students learned something today, but not yesterday.
