Bringing technology into Asia's homes

With the continuing boom in home construction in major Asian cities, iHS presents a much needed platform for technology vendors to meet with home builders – architects, interior designers, engineers, systems integrators and property developers – and jointly create smart solutions for modern living.

iHS – intelligent Home Solutions – is designed to facilitate partnerships among key players. The event allows vendors to showcase cutting edge solutions to homebuilders keen to expand the functionality and eventual value of their property.

Homeowners and in turn homebuilders in Asia are looking beyond brick and mortar for their homes. As technology evolves and costs erode, homeowners are increasingly demanding a home that responds to their individual needs – from security, lighting and temperature control, multi-room sound and video to integrated communication and assistive care services. For the homebuilders, the added high-tech features offer a competitive edge and differentiate them from their competition.

Digital living takes off in Asia
Market analyst firm In-Stat/MDR reported that Asia will eclipse North America as the region with the most home networks by 2008, rising from 27% in 2004 to 36% of all home networks worldwide in 2008.  Asia, with 45.4 million DSL subscribers, represents an attractive market for smart home networks.

Another US research firm, Parks Associates, also reported in a market survey that Asian countries would lead the world in creating digital homes. The survey found that individual countries within Asia are developing distinct areas of leadership in driving the digital trend. Consumers in Hong Kong are forging ahead with IPTV takeup, while Taiwan leads the world in home networking. A Singapore telco recently announced the launch of an integrated digital gateway to enable seamless home connectivity and new generation services. "Digital living takes off in Asia", declares a BBC report. It's an opportune time for manufacturers and suppliers of intelligent home products to focus their attention on Asia.
